Abstract :
The deformation behaviour of a 15 vol%TiC particulate reinforced Ti–6Al–4V composite was investigated under monotonic loading at elevated temperatures. The mechanical behaviour under compressive and tensile loading was found to be similar. There is a significant improvement in strength and creep resistance of Ti–6Al–4V on reinforcement with TiC particulates. The deformation behaviour of the Ti-composite was found to be qualitatively similar to the matrix alloy Ti–6Al–4V. It has been shown that the addition of TiC particulates refines the microstructure of Ti–6Al–4V alloy significantly and is responsible for the improved properties of the composite.
