Abstract
An alternative model for predicting adequate operating parameters of a continuous, metal matrix composite production process is developed. Predictions from the model are compared with a previous model and with experimental results. The fiber tow molten metal interaction is described as flow through a parallel, cylindrical fiber array (PCA) in the new model. The predicted critical pulling velocity, pulling force and the pressure gradient are self-consistent with experimentally measured parameters within 1%. The PCA model is expected to provide a useful design and operating tool for fabrication of metal matrix composite wire.
