Abstract
A procedure based on elasticity calculations is proposed to investigate the deformation of the free surface of a close-packed crystal when a trigonal misfit dislocation network lies just a few atomic monolayers below the surface, as observed for some reconstructed surfaces in noble metals or epitaxial systems. The network has open nodes limited by edge Shockley dislocations.
