Abstract
The local deformation around whiskers was investigated by microstructural observations and misorientation determination in Al–SiCw materials. A model based on local lattice rotation was proposed to explain the formation of misorientation. The experimental results are in good agreement with the suggested model. The misorientation can be predicted by the Taylor and Bishop–Hill models. The deformation zone is often asymmetric with respect to the axis of the whisker, which differs from that predicted from finite element calculations.
