Abstract
Some steels chosen have been heat treated to form several typical microstructures and cut into various tensile specimens. Specimens have respectively been incrementally pulled intermittentely or serially and observed on surfaces, or sections prepared, or fracture surfaces. Experimental results reveal a whole micro-process from deformation to final fracture, in which phase-interfaces play very important roles. This has been interpreted on the light of micro-mechanical analysis, dislocation theory and mechanisms, leading to a deeper understanding on the relationship among microstructures, micro-mechanical behaviour of interfaces and macro-mechanical properties of steels.
