Abstract :
A dense and homogeneous TiB2P/Al composite was successfully fabricated by squeeze casting technology, and its microstructure as well as mechanical properties were evaluated. For 35 vol.% TiB2P/Al composite, the bending strengthen was as high as 629 MPa, the hardness was 170 HB, and the elastic modulus was 137 GPa. In addition, the fracture modes included ductile failure of Al matrix and brittle fracture of TiB2 particles. With the increasing of TiB2, bending strengthen, hardness, and elastic modulus of 45 vol.% TiB2P/Al composite were 18, 61, and 26%, respectively, higher than that of 35 vol.% TiB2/Al composite. And elastic modulus of TiB2P/Al composite in this paper was in better agreement with the prediction by Hashin–Shtrikman (H–S) model.
