STM image of polyaniline with large size counter-ions

A periodical STM image of the polyemeraldine salt from protonated with p-toluenesulfornic acid (PANI-PTSA) on IIOPG substrates synthesized electrochemically was obtained. By association with x-ray diffraction measurement, the resulting STM image was assigned, and a possible chain organization was proposed based on assumption of a tight interchain contact with shifted of a quarter of chain repeat unit of PANI. The parameters, such as chain repeat unit, interchain distance between chains, caulculated from proposed chain structure model are in agreement observations from STM image measurements.
