Abstract :
The dehalogenative polymerization of methyl 2,5-dichlorothiophene carboxylate (MDCTC) and methyl 2,5-dichlorobenzoate (MDCB) gave poly(methyl thiophene-3-carboxylate) (PMTC) and poly(mehtyl phenylene carboxylate) (PMPC), respectively. Hydrolysis of PMTC and PMPC produced poly(sodium thiophene-3-carboxylate) (PSTC) and poly(sodium phenylene carboxylate) (PSPC), respectively. Both these polymers were soluble in water. The electrochemical polymerization of pyrrole (PY) using PSTC and PSPC gave conducting polypyrrole (PPY) films. It is suggested that PSTC and PSPC as water-solubel polymeric electrolytes were useful for the electrochemical polymerization of PY.
