Syntheses of narrow band gap heterocyclic copolymers of aromatic-donor and quinonoid-acceptor units

A series of mixed trimers with alternating aromatic-donor and quinonoid-acceptor units have been synthesized as new precursors for narrow band gap polymers. Anodic oxidation of the trimers, except the pyridine derivatives, produced the electroactive polymers with narrow band gaps.
