Coupled lattice and electronic effects in high-temperature superconductors

We propose a polaron-tunneling model for coupled charge and lattice fluctuations in the c-direction of cuprate superconductors. We describe the expected lattice dynamical and optical signatures and compare them with recent experimental data.
