Abstract
Two inverted emulsion pathways were employed to prepare polyaniline-containing composites. In Method 1, an organic solution of aniline was introduced into an inverted emulsion in which an organic solution of a host polymer and a dispersant was used as the continuous phase and an aqueous solution of an oxidant and a dopant as the dispersed phase. After the completion of polymerization, the composite was obtained by precipitating the polyaniline and the host polymer together. In Method 2, an aqueous solution of an oxidant and a dopant was introduced into an inverted emulsion in which an organic solution of a dispersant, aniline and a host polymer was used as the continuous phase and pure water as the dispersed phase. The composites prepared by Method 1 had conductivities as high as 0.35–0.48 S/cm, tensile strengths of 2.9-2.8 MPa and elongations of 221-30% at break point, respectively. The composites prepared by Method 2 had conductivities as high as 1.0–2.8 S/cm, tensile strengths of 8.0–6.1 MPa and elongations of 95.6-23.3% at break point, respectively. The conductivities of the composites changed little with time.
