Abstract :
The syntheses and electrochemical properties of two novel electron-deficient naphthoquinones are described. Quinone (4) readily forms a charge transfer salt with tetrathiofulvalene (TTF). The key step in the synthesis of the quinones is an active nickel powder-assisted cycloaddition of a substituted o-xylylene to fumaronitrile.
