Abstract :
New donor-acceptor-substituted chromophores have been synthesized, in which 1,3-dithiol-2-ylidene and dicyanomethylene groups are linked by a heteroquinoid spacer. Spectroscopic and X-ray crystallographic analyses demonstrate that they involve resonance structures of a zwitterionic type depending on the central heteroquinoid moiety.
