Abstract :
Electroabsorption spectra of BCMU have been used to study the influence of disorder on the excited states in polydiacetylenes. The spectra show strong changes of transition energy and lineshape which occur by going from oriented chains diluted in monomer single crystals to polymer single crystals and spin cast films where disorder obscures the intrinsic electronic properties.
