Abstract
Soluble oligo(1,1′-ferrocenylene) derivatives were synthesized by reaction of dihexylfulvalene dianion with FeCl2(THF)2 (THF = tetrahydrofuran) and a heptamer, 7, was isolated using recycling GPC. Cyclic voltammetry and square-wave voltammetry of 7 show seven 1e− oxidation waves and the distribution of formal potentials can be explained using interaction parameters over two and three redox units previously evaluated for the previous simulation of the redox potentials of oligo(1,1′-dihexylferrocenylene)s, 1 –6. Trends in the first two and last two redox potential differences strongly support the validity of taking the second neighboring site interaction into account.
