Abstract
2,5-Dibromopyrroles having a liquid crystalline substituent with a cyclohexyl or biphenyl mesogenic core at the N-position were dehalogenatively polycondensed with Ni(cod)2, giving soluble and fusible polypyrrole derivatives. The chemical structures and properties were investigated by IR, NMR, DSC, XRD, and a thermo-controlled polarized microscope. Number-average molecular weights of the polymers were about 7000. Electrical, thermal, and optical properties of these polymers were compared with those of polymers obtained by oxidative polymerization with FeCl3 and electrochemical methods.
