Abstract
We succeeded in preparing directly-synthesized oriented trans-polyacetylene films without stretching and thermal treatment. These films were oriented during the polymerization process by the aid of nematic liquid crystals as the Ziegler-Natta catalyst solvent. Orientation of the liquid crystals, and hence the polymer was achieved by a magnetic field of 1.4 T. These films have a longer conjugation length than those of the ordinary thermally treated films.
