Abstract :
Three types of alkyl substituted poly(thiophenes) were studied: regioregular head-to-head, tail-to-tail, regioregular head-to-tail and swith random couplings. The valence electron (band) spectra were determined by photoelectron spectroscopy (PES) and were interpreted with a reference to the conformation of the polymer chains. It is shown that the chain conformation drastically influences the luminescence and the optical properties of the polymers
