Abstract :
We report far-infrared transmission measurements of η-Mo4O11 at temperatures above and below the two charge-density-wave (CDW) transitions at 109 and 35 K. We analyze the exotic splitting patterns of the vibrational features in terms of the nature of the structural distortions. Data on γ-Mo4O11, is also shown to compare with the η-phase material. Preliminary far-infrared reflectance spectra of η-Mo4O11 taken in the presence of an external magnetic field is also presented.
