Deposition of polyaniline on glass and platinum by autocatalytic oxidation of aniline with dichromate

The oxidation of aniline with dichromate was studied by UV–Vis spectrometry, and was shown to proceed autocatalytically leading to colored oligomers and polymers of aniline. Chemical polymerization of aniline by dichromate is greatly accelerated by thin film of the reaction product polyaniline, present on an inner surface of reaction vessel. Polyaniline films were deposited by chemical polymerization onto quartz glass and platinum surfaces, and some redox and electrochemical properties of the resulting films were investigated.
