Abstract :
A monolayer network film of a phenolic resin has been fabricated through the Langmuir–Blodgett (LB) technique. 1,3,5-Benzenetriol monohexadecyl ether (C16-1,3,5-BT) was synthesized by the reaction of phloroglucinol dihydrate with 1-iodohexadecane. Monolayers of C16-1,3,5-BT were spread on aqueous subphase and on 3% aqueous formaldehyde subphase. Monolayer behaviors were studied by the surface pressure–area isotherms. The molecular structures of the LB films were determined by the FT-IR spectroscopy. The transfer was carried out as Y type and the transfer ratio was ca. 0.8. The LB film was subjected to acid and heat treatments. The mechanical stability of the resulting network film was indirectly evaluated by the SEM observation of the film morphology covered over the porous substrate.
