Abstract :
There have been recent advances in the understanding of photoinduced charge and energy transfer in supramolecular materials, and in the design of improved nonlinear optical materials which use these effects. Examples of these materials are linear chains, molecular superstructures, and bulk blends of π-conjugated compounds which combine the functions of electron donors, acceptors, and optimized nonlinear optical chromophores. There has been substantial progress toward the ambitious goal of making bulk heterostructured materials with control of structure, charge transfer efficiency, and nonlinear optical response on the molecular scale.
