Raman scattering in nanoparticles of mercuric iodide

Optical properties of nanoparticles are significantly different from bulk materials. Raman scattering spectra of nanoparticles of red HgI2 have been recorded at room temperature. The effect of the dielectric constant of the medium surrounding the particles has been studied with a view to locate and characterize the surface modes.
