The influence of d10 ions on the luminescence of bismuth(III) in solids

The presence of In3+(4d10) in host lattices containing Bi3+(6s2) as a luminescent ion can have a drastic influence on this luminescence. In Y2O3, La2O3 and LaOCl it is quenched, in YPO4 a new emission occurs, but in LaInO3 there is no influence at all. Some results including Sb3+(5s2) are also given. The results are discussed in terms of a charge-transfer state. The effects are very sensitive to the choice of the host lattice.
