Abstract :
Thermodynamic approach has been applied to calculate the equilibrium vapor pressure of free iodine above the nonstoichiometric solid phase of α-HgI2 in closed systems which are used in vapor growth of large mercuric iodide crystals. The results show that if free iodine is not visible in the gas phase during the growth, a slight excess of mercury can be expected in the asgrown crystals.
