Synthesis and luminescence of dioxo W6+ (d0) complex: BaWO2F4

The synthesis and luminescence properties of BaWO2F4 are reported and discussed. The oxofluorotungstate displays efficient luminescence at room temperature under short wavelength ultraviolet excitation. The optical properties are rationalized in terms of the localization of luminescence within the “WO2” groups of the [WO2F4]2− octahedral complex in BaWO2F4.
