Abstract :
The di[octa(N,N-dimethylformamide) cerium (III)] tri(tetrathiotungstate (VI)) monohydrate, [Ce(dmf)8]2(WS4)3.H2O, has been synthesized from a mixture of (NH4)WS4 and CeCl3·7H2O in dmf. This new, yellow material crystallizes in the triclinic P1 space group with the following cell parameters: a = 10.3547(17) Å, b= 18.772(3) Å, c = 25.260(7) Å, α = 79.28(3)°, β = 83.36(3)°, γ = 83.02(2)°, and V = 4767(4) Å3 (Z = 2). The structure refinement yielded the residual factors R/Rw = 0.0556/0.1369 for 880 parameters and 11262 independent reflections at a 3-sigma level, with different Fourier residues ranging from −2.0 to 2.6 e−/Å3. The structure can be viewed as built upon [WS4]2− tetrahedral anions and DMF eight-folded coordinated Ce3+ cations with inclusion of water molecules.
