Abstract
Stability constants and thermodynamic data for the complex formation of silver(I) with noncyclic, macrocyclic and macrobicyclic ligands have been measured in acetone using potentiometric and calorimetric methods. The nitrogen donor atoms of the ligands participate much stronger in the complex formation than the ether donor atoms. Thus, the reaction enthalpies play an important role for the stabilities of the complexes formed. The values of the reaction entropies are close to zero. The cavity size of the macrocyclic and macrobicyclic ligands is important only if the dimensions of the cation and of the cavity are nearly identical.
