Abstract :
We developed a novel method to prepare calcium alginate gel-entrapped large multilamellar vesicle liposomes. The calcium alginate-entrapped liposomes showed both calcein release and insulin release in a calcium-dependent manner. Relatively slow kinetic component of calcein release was observed in the presence of 100 mM CaCl2 but not in 100 mM EDTA, a strong calcium chelator, after addition of detergent. We attribute the component to diffusion of calcein from calcium alginate gel particles.
