Abstract
The electrical resistivity, microhardness, lattice parameters and solid solubility extension for Cu-V and Cu-Cr melt-spun ribbons have been studied. The solid solubility extension for Cr was narrowed to between 4 and 5 at.% compared with a range of 3.3 and 6.3 at.% proposed previously. It was found that the solubility of vanadium in copper can be extended from a maximum equilibrium value of 0.17 at.% to 0.5 at.% as determined by electrical resistivity measurements or 1.0 at.% as determined by lattice parameter measurements. However, the properties of a ribbon varied systematically along its length, indicating that the cooling rate experienced varied significantly during the course of a spin.
