Abstract
The influence of a macrocrack on damage threshold and mechanical strength of LiF, NaCl, CaCO3 single crystals was investigated. The growth of former macrocrack caused by laser-induced damage was found. The irradiation of samples by laser pulses causes the formation of cavities, micro-and macrocracks around the particulate inclusions. The mechanism of former macrocrack growth based on its association with the laser-induced defects is discussed.
