Abstract
During plastic deformation, the original grains get subdivided by dislocation boundaries. The misorientation across the dislocation boundaries varies over a large angular range from low-angle boundaries to typical high-angle boundaries. Both the dislocation density and the stored energy in the boundaries relate to the misorientation angle. In the present work, effects of orientation correlations on misorientation distributions are investigated in aluminium cold rolled to 50 and 90% reduction. Single orientations are selected which well represent the experimental textures. These single orientations are randomly mixed (i.e. no orientation correlation) and misorientation distributions are calculated. By comparing with experimentally measured misorientation distributions, it is found that the two types of distributions are significantly different in all the investigated cases. These results are used for a discussion of the significance of orientation correlations on the overall misorientation distributions.
