Abstract :
The effect of small second-phase particles on the primary recrystallisation of cold-rolled AlMnSi alloys has been investigated. There was a significant influence of particle content on the development of crystallographic texture. Decreasing the annealing temperature and increasing the particle content led to an enhanced development of the cube texture and a concurrent increase in recrystallised grain size and aspect ratio. Transmission electron microscopy showed that cube-oriented grains originated in band structures, and there was evidence that grains of other, competing, texture components nucleated at prior grain boundaries. The influence of the particles could be rationalised by considering their role in pinning high-angle boundaries, especially in the early stages of the recrystallisation process where several factors suggest that cube-oriented nuclei are likely to be affected less than other possible types.
