Abstract
Dielectric response has been investigated for the dielectric glass xBaTiO3·(1−x)SiO2 (x=0.5, 0.67, and 0.8) produced by twin-roller quenching in the frequency interval from 100 Hz to 15 MHz. For x=0.5, the glass crystallizes into BaTiSiO5, while for x=0.67 and 0.8, these crystallize into the stable BaTiO3 first and then BaTiSiO5 crystallization follows. In the electric measurement, anomalous dielectric response appears in the temperature range between the glass transition temperature and the crystallization temperature for the three compositions of x=0.5, 0.67, and 0.8 due to the enormous increase of atomic mobility. The activation energies for the d.c. and a.c. conductions estimated from the impedance Cole–Cole plots and imaginary dielectric constants are similar to each other for the three samples, and it is 1 eV.
