Abstract :
The cyclic deformation behavior of [017] critical double-slip-oriented copper single crystals was investigated at constant plastic shear strain amplitude γpl in the range of 1.2×10−4 to 6.5×10−3 at room temperature in air, and compared with that of other critical double-slip-oriented crystals such as [034] and [012]. Comparison was also made with multiple-slip-oriented copper single crystals [001] and [011]. It was shown that the plot of initial hardening rate θ0.2 against γpl of [017] crystal exhibits two regions as presented for single-slip-oriented crystals. A distinctive strain burst phenomenon was observed with [017] crystal in the very early stage of cyclic hardening. Instead of a clear plateau, the cyclic stress–strain (CSS) curve of the [017] crystal shows a quasi-plateau over the strain range of about 5.0×10−4 to 1.5×10−3. For the crystals located on the 001/011 side of the stereographic triangle, an increase in θ0.2 and a gradually diminishing plateau behavior are shown from the [011] crystal to the [001] crystal along the 001/011 side.
