Abstract
The conductivity and conduction behavior of poly(2-dimethylaminoethylmethacerylate) and its hydrochloride salt have been reported here. 2-dimethylaminoethylmethacerylate is polymerized thermally and its HCl salt is prepared by acidification. The polymer electrolyte has been characterized by IR, 1H NMR, TGA and DSC. Frequency and temperature dependence of ac conductivity has been studied to learn about the electrical conduction behavior in this material. The electrical conductivity (σ) of the new material is found to be in the range of 10−2 to 10−4 S cm−1. There is about 102- to 103-fold increase in conductivity for the new polymer salt. The material is shown to be a predominantly ionic conductor with tion≈0.81. Apparent activation energy are found to be 0.149 and 0.154 for the polymer and the salt, respectively.
