Abstract :
The luminescent properties of eulytite structural ternary orthophosphates Ba3Gd(PO4)3:Ln3+ (Ln3+ = Ce3+, Pr3+, Tb3+), Ba3Ce(PO4)3, Ba3Gd(PO4)3 and Ba3Tb(PO4)3 under UV and synchrotron radiation VUV excitation were investigated. The host related absorption and the f–d transitions of Ln3+ ions in the host lattices are identified. An empirical expression on the lowest f–d transition energies and n values for 4fn-series Ln3+ ions in the host lattices is suggested.
