Abstract
The surface tension of molten Ni–W and Ni–Cr alloys was measured at 1773–1873 K with an improved sessile drop method. And the recommended surface tension–temperature relationship was derived using linear regression method. It has been found that the surface tension of molten Ni–W and Ni–Cr alloys decreases with increasing temperature. The surface tension in present work is much higher than previous data with the difference of more than 170–220 mN m−1. The large surface tension value and its low temperature coefficient obtained in the present study could be due to the high-purity of sample and the low partial oxygen pressure in the experimental atmosphere.
