Abstract :
Amorphous composites containing different volume fractions of crystalline copper were synthesized by means of extrusion carried out on the amorphous powders, of which surfaces are coated with crystalline copper. Compression tests were conducted on the amorphous composites to determine the flow behaviors governed by the volume fraction of the ductile copper. Finite element method analyses of the idealized model composites were made to understand the deformation behaviors of the bulk amorphous composites containing different volume fractions of crystalline copper. An extended plastic deformation in copper leads to the ductile fracture of the composite containing a large amount of copper.
