Abstract :
Rapidly solidified Al–Y–Ni–Co–Pd alloys contain highly dispersed primary α-Al nanoparticles of about 5 nm in size homogeneously embedded in the glassy matrix with an extremely high density of precipitates of the order of 1024 m−3. These particles grow at the temperature below a glass-transition temperature. The first direct observation of micro-strain regions and dislocations quenched in nanoparticles with a size about 5 nm is provided.
