Abstract :
Mechanical properties of hot extruded Mg–6 mass%Al–2 mass%Ca alloy were examined. The alloy was homogenized at 723 K for 24 h before extrusion in order to dissolve the second phase, Al2Ca. The grain size of the extruded sheet was 15 μm and spherical particles with the size of 1.5 μm were dispersed mainly in the grain boundaries. The ductility at room temperature was high compared with other magnesium alloys containing Ca. The ductility was enhanced at above 623 K. It was suggested that climb controlled dislocation creep could be a dominant deformation process at elevated temperatures and at around 10−1 s−1. The constitutive equation for high temperature deformation was also developed.
