Abstract :
Strong solid-solution hardening of intermetallic materials in the region where the yield stress increases anomalously with temperature is shown to be caused by the stimulating influence of solution atoms on dislocation locking via the Kear–Wilsdorf mechanism. The dependence of the yield stress on temperature, solution concentration, strain rate, and other parameters is described in terms of a simple model in which the thermally activated kinetics of cross slip of dislocations is modified by solution atoms. The proposed theory is compared with available experimental data for a (Ni1−cFec)3Ge solid solution.
