Abstract :
The analysis considers the problem of the impact energy dissipating elements used to reinforce the existing protective road barrier systems. The results of experimental tests and numerical simulation of a basic energy-absorbing element, in the form of a sleeve made of glass–epoxy composite, are presented. These results were also used for the development of a reliable numerical model of a road barrier and for simulation of the barrier hitting. The obtained results allowed for the practical usability assessment of an example solution.
