Measurement of the volume expansion of a grain boundary by the phase method

The volume expansion of a molybdenum twin boundary is measured by the phase method. The influence of experimental parameters such as specimen thickness and defocus is investigated. It is also shown that the presence of residual 3-fold astigmatism can induce important errors in the final value.
