Abstract
Deformation behavior of face-centered cubic (fcc) single crystals including copper and aluminum under wedge indentation along [0 0 1] direction was studied. The load–displacement relation shows elastic–plastic responses of the single crystals associated with the indentation processes. Lattice rotation measurement using electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) technique was performed in the region ahead of the indenter tip called indenter penetration zone (IPZ). The experimental results reveal the features of severe plastic deformation, subgrain formation, and recrystallization in the IPZ. The stress state was derived and yield surfaces were obtained using the generalized von Mises criterion for anisotropic plasticity. In the area away from the IPZ in the single crystals, slip bands were examined and crystal lattice rotation maps were used to show the deformation states.
