Abstract :
The effect of strong initial texture on the dynamic mechanical behavior of an extruded AM30 magnesium alloy has been investigated at high strain rates ranging from 102 s−1 to 103 s−1. The dynamic tension and compression behavior were analyzed by Split Hopkinson Tension and Pressure Bar. The tension and compression tests were conducted along extrusion direction and transverse direction, respectively. The tension–compression yield asymmetry as well as the anisotropy under high strain rate deformation were investigated. The yield strength dependency of strain rates were also studied in this work. The results demonstrated that the anisotropy and asymmetry of extruded AM30 magnesium alloy are still present at high strain rates deformation. The anisotropy is considerably apparent in tension in comparison with compression and the asymmetry is more pronounced in extrusion direction. The yield strength dependence on strain rates in tension test along extrusion direction is considerably obvious. The deformation mechanism of high strain rate deformation of magnesium alloy is discussed in this paper.
