Abstract
A systematic investigation of the fluxes of cosmic ray secondaries and their radioisotope production by the aid of low level Ge gamma spectrometry is proposed. Reactions to assess thermal and fast neutron fluxes, intensities of stopped negative muons and fast muons and of tertiary produced neutrons are outlined. Direct information on cosmogenic production rates are obtainable through short term exposure of mostly metallic targets with subsequent nondestructive measurement in the Ge spectrometer. The existing data base on both the fluxes and the production rates, could thus be strongly improved for a shielding depth range from sea level to several 10 m water equivalent with only one instrument.
