Abstract :
The deformation behavior and microstructure evolution of a high-strength Mg93.96Zn2Y4Sr0.04 (at%) alloy with long-period stacking ordered (LPSO) structure subjected to equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) were systematically investigated. The results showed that, after equal channel angular pressing, the alloy exhibited excellent mechanical properties with ultimate tensile strength of 408 and 375 MPa at ambient and elevated temperatures, respectively. Such excellent mechanical properties could be attributed to the long-period stacking ordered structure, dislocation pile-up in the bent LPSO structure and appearance of subboundaries induced by dislocation tangles in the X-phase. These findings are expected to provide the in-depth insights into methods for optimizing the mechanical properties of magnesium alloys with LPSO structure.
