Abstract
The influence on the microstructure and property of Ti–6Al–4V–0.1B caused by the direct rolling in the near β phase region is studied. It proves that the trace boron addition significantly refines the as-cast structure of the alloy, which lays microstructure foundation for the subsequent direct rolling. Direct rolling dramatically changes the alloy morphology and increases the strength and the ductility. Rolling causes the distinction between the properties in the rolling direction and transverse direction. Electron backscatter diffraction analysis shows there is no apparent texture in alloys. The property improvement and its differences in directions of the as-rolled alloy are chiefly attributed to both the morphology change of the alloy matrix and different damage forms which appears during the tension test of TiB whisker.
