Abstract :
The paper experimentally compares the stability of amplification of two preamplifier configurations for detectors whose signal is a charge supplied to a collecting electrode; the source follower and the charge preamplifier. By using the same detector with integrated electronics connected in one or the other configuration, the superior stability of amplification of the charge preamplifier with respect to the source follower is experimentally verified when the bias condition and the temperature are changed. Nevertheless, the paper shows that the optimum performance of the charge preamplifier configuration can be partially degraded in detectors with integrated electronics by the strays associated with the feedback capacitance.
